Joe Harold Weeks, 66, of Ellensburg passed away at his home on February 9, 2018. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Wednesday, February 14 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Steward & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg. Joe will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at a later date.
Joe was born on January 24, 1952 in Moline, Illinois, the oldest of four sons born to Harold & Pauline (Kruegr) Weeks. He grew up in Rock Island, Illinois and graduated from Rock Island Senior High in 1970. He attended for two years at Lincoln College before transferring to the University of Illinois where he earned his Bachelor of Science in forestry.
After college, Joe moved to Tacoma where he had accepted a position with the Department of Natural Resources. He met Paula Sherri Hargett and the couple married in 1981 and moved to Oroville, Washington. In 1991, Joe accepted a position with the Colville Tribe as a land manager and moved to Grand Coulee before accepting another position with the Department of Natural Resources that moved him to Ellensburg in 2001.
After Paula passed away in late 2012, Joe retired shortly thereafter in 2014. He married Robin Garrett on September 26, 2013 in Billings, Montana and the couple continued to live in Ellensburg until his passing. Joe was an award winning wood decoy duck carver, enjoyed photography – specifically taking photos of wildflowers – golf and motorcycles. He owned a few bikes over the years and enjoyed spending time on the open road.
Joe is survived by his wife, Robin, at their home in Ellensburg; son Paul (Diana) Weeks of Yakima; grandson William Weeks of Yakima; brothers Craig (Terry) Weeks of Milan, Illinois; Bruce Weeks of Bangkok, Thailand and Kurt (Deborah) Weeks of Tacoma. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Paula, his parents and infant son William.
